Over 100 million people, featuring at least 15 million children, now employ e-cigarettes, propelling a new trend of nicotine dependency, per recent international health findings.

Children are, typically, nine times more prone than mature individuals to vape, based on current worldwide statistics.

E-cigarettes are driving a "fresh wave" of nicotine habit, stated a prominent health expert. "They are promoted as damage limitation but, truthfully, are hooking kids on nicotine at younger ages and threaten undermining decades of advancement."

"As a reaction to this significant progress, the tobacco business is pushing back with recent nicotine items, aggressively focusing on adolescents. Authorities must respond faster and stronger in applying established tobacco-control measures," the representative added.

The e-cigarette statistics are an estimate since some countries - 109 in sum, and numerous in Africa and Southeast Asia - fail to collect information.

Based on the study, as of recent February this year, at minimum 86 million e-cigarette users were mature individuals, mainly in wealthy states.

And at least 15 million teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 already engage in vaping, based on surveys from 123 states.

Although several nations have made efforts to implement e-cigarette regulations to tackle child vaping in recent years, by the close of 2024, 62 nations still had no regulation in effect, and 74 nations had no age limit at which e-cigarettes are allowed to be purchased, states the health body.

At the same time, tobacco consumption has been dropping - from an estimated 1.38 billion individuals in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Occurrence of tobacco use among females decreased the largest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

With males, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But a fifth of grown-ups internationally yet employs tobacco.

Cigarette consumption is associated to many illnesses, including cancer.

Experts say vaping is significantly less harmful than cigarettes, and can help you stop smoking. It is discouraged for those who don't smoke.

Electronic cigarettes avoid burning tobacco and avoid generating black substance or carbon monoxide, two of the most harmful substances in tobacco vapors. They include nicotine, which can be dependency-creating.
